Strategic Investment Group – investment advisor firm in Northern Virginia area may be seeking person with both DBA and software developer skills. We are trying to determine if the following is a reasonable job description and whether we would find any applicants. The position has not been approved by management at this point, but if there is a pool of applications, we believe we can get the position approved.

 

Position Description:

  • Support and administrate numerous ‘SQL Server’ servers and databases
  • Support and develop SIG business and office support applications
  • Work closely with end users and IT group with ad-hoc developments

Position Requirements:

  • BS degree in computer science or business.
  • 3-6 years SQL Server DBA experience (MS SQL Server DBA certification is preferable)
  • Intensive experience in the database application programming (Visual Foxpro and .Net/C#, preferably both)

 

Preferred Skills:

  • DBA for SQL Server
  • Programming skills in Visual FoxPro with SQL Server 2005 database as back end and .NET
  • Experience with WEB development (especially in .NET/ASPX) is very welcome

Foxpro conversion to .Net ( ASP, VB or C#)

I have a contract opportunity for someone who has experience with foxpro and the newer .net technologies. The position is located in Washington, DC. They are looking for someone to come in and take their current foxpro application and convert it to any of the .nets. (asp, c#, vb), they are open to letting you decide which one. They assume the project will take about 3 months, but they would like you to come in and assess the situation and give more of a definite timeframe. Perform duties required for application design and implementation for moderately complex computer systems. Strategic Investment Group provides full investment outsourcing services to institutional clients and taxable family groups, both domestic and offshore.  Strategic is a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial company that supports a progressive and creative environment. This position will support the operations and research functions of Strategic through the development and enhancement of proprietary financial applications including Performance Measurement and Risk Management systems, Trade and Portfolio Management systems and other applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs):

  • Develop and maintain SIG financial and office support applications.
  • Install, maintain and customize 3rd-party products.
  • Support and administer ‘SQL Server’ and Visual FoxPro (VFP) databases.
  • Work closely with Risk Management, Systems Development and Portfolio Administration managers to analyze user requirements, design and develop database WINDOWS/WEB applications.
  • Work closely with IT group to accommodate and apply most recent IT innovations to SIG applications.

·         Design and implement WINDOWS/WEB applications primarily in Visual FoxPro and SQL Server, create systems design and user manual documents and provide software project development management.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • BS degree (or higher) in computer science, management systems or related areas.
  • 3-6 years intensive experience with Windows database applications development and support.
  • Good analytical and communications skills.
  • 2-5 years experience of programming with Visual FoxPro (version 8.0 required, version 9.0 a plus).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented and professional demeanor.
  • Working experience and programming with SQL Server databases (SQL Server 2005 experience a plus).
  • Knowledge and some working experience with .NET (C# and ASPX).
  • Experience with Excel, PDF and e-mail automation from Visual FoxPro environment.
  • Working experience with Visual MaxFrame (VMP 2000 is preferable).
  • Experience with development and support of financial applications (performance measurement systems, portfolio management, risk management, trade and accounting systems) preferred but not required.

FoxPro Application Developer

Candidate will update and maintain a FoxPro 7.0 application currently deployed (remotely) to a large number of United States Postal Service locations nationwide. Position is a 3 to 6 month contract and could be performed remotely. Candidate must be able to obtain a USPS Sensitive security clearance.

Candidate understands, develops, implements, maintains, and deploys applications in FoxPro 7.0 and would require expertise in the following areas:

  1. Best practices in development methodologies
  2. Ability to understand and document complex business processes
  3. Ability to work directly with the customer
  4. Ability to work with end users to help trouble-shoot and solve problems
  5. Ability to manage complex FoxPro deployments and versioning

Candidate must follow predefined software development standards and procedures. Candidate must satisfy requirements, meet agreed to completion date(s), and perform tests for products developed. Good team working skills and meticulous attention to detail is a must.

General Qualifications:
The candidate needs to have at least 3+ years of professional experience working with FoxPro. Applicant must have 5+ years of professional application development experience. The opportunity offers excellent potential for learning and professional growth.
