Meetings

PAFOX holds monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month. We welcome first time visitors and guests so please come to the next PAFOX meeting and get to know us.

Next meeting:  Thursday, June 5, 2008 @ 6:30:pm

Directions to PAFOX's meeting location.

PAFOX Meeting Format...

An important and key feature of PAFOX membership is the 'networking' that occurs during our monthly meetings.  During the Opportunities portion of the meeting, various agency and corporate staffing personnel in attendance may announce career VFP position openings to the audience. Also, independent consultants may state their availability for contract work. Business cards and resumes are frequently exchanged during the break that follows.

6:30pm - 7:00pm FoxPro Question & Answer
7:00pm - 7:15pm Announcements / Opportunities
7:15pm - 7:30pm Break / Business Card Exchange
7:30pm - 9:00pm Featured Presentation

Upcoming Schedule...

Date Topic / Presentation
June 5 , 2008 Dot Net development with VFP backend from a VFP developer's perspective-- presented by Don Rapp
Although no expert in .Net, I will show how how to query data doing what VFP developers see as standard SQL statements via OleDBProvider, handling parameters to prevent SQL injection attacks

I'll also get into some samples on binding the data to grids, handle formatting and paging. How to customize the look / content of a grid instead of a simple single column/field per row including adding images and such. How does .Net handle postback events from objects.

This will all be done with C#.Net 2.0 and standard VFP OleDBProvider. I'll also show how to implement a multi-threaded VFP .DLL COM server for some more complex calls back to VFP for processing that is otherwise limited through the OleDBProvider.

PAFOX Guest Speakers & Meeting Presenters

We represent a diverse group of software developers, project managers and systems analysts from throughout the Washington Metro region that are using Microsoft Visual FoxPro and Microsoft Visual Studio tools to produce database applications on office networks, web-enabled applications, and client/server systems. If you are interested in reaching this market segment to present your VFP or Visual Studio related product, journal article, or book please contact PAFOX. Also, if you or someone you know would like to present a talk based upon a Visual FoxPro-developed custom application or code solution example to the group, we would be interested in talking with you.

Just send an email to the PAFOX Vice President for Speakers with some details and he will coordinate with you to add you or your associate to the guest speaker schedule for an upcoming meeting!  Please understand that although PAFOX collects membership dues from our regular attending members, we are a very lightly funded group where most funds go towards website hosting costs. Any compensation requested by guest speakers would be difficult to provide.

Thanks! to Eagle Eye Publishers Inc for sponsoring the meeting facility for PAFOX.
